week 7 post 3: gamification motivation

In this source I learned how gamification motivates and engages learners in the classroom. But I also learned that there is a risk of gamification if not applied correctly. Students will be interested in the learning process but only through extrinsic rewards like candy. I also learned Game-based learning reward systems can help students start to develop a love for learning. And by using gamification to teach new concepts teachers can build a stronger educational foundation for students.

I also learned that it is important for educators to transition students from only learning enough to pass a test to learning for its own sake. Gamification encourages students to be active learners. It also helps increases student’s attention span and ability to retain new and old knowledge. This source connected gamification back to extrinsic and extrinsic motivation because over time, this leads to learning as a motivation and unlocking a student's inner fascination of a class subjects instead of being lured only by rewards. A question I have is which schools have already started implementing gamification in classrooms? Why is gamification not applied more often?
