week 5 post 3: design principles
In this week's lesson I learned about the 15 design principles and the 4 different sets of. Discoverability, simplicity, affordances, mapping, perceptibility, constituency, equity, ease and comfort, structure, constraints, tolerance, feedback and documentation. I also learned the four sets of principle designs which are and how they all have different points of view but also a lot of similarities. I learned that it is important to learn from all 4 of their perspectives and detentions to have a well-rounded view over the principles to create simple, usual interfaces. Knowing these two main topics will make creating interfaces more effective.
Also, in this week's lesson I learned about the differences between affordances and mapping. If we do not know the differences, it is easy to mix them up or put them both into one category which misses important points. Mapping leads users to a certain function or outcome while affordances hint at ways to use a certain function. I learned about the issue that could arise in affordances is that virtually it is sometimes difficult to connect digital and physical functions on an interface. Overall, I found that connecting as many terms as possible and functions used daily will improve user experiences because it is not a foreign topic that is difficult to navigate.
Can you give me an example of mapping?
