week 10 post 3: HCI in game design and gestalt law
This source focused more on the role of human computer interaction in game design. I learned that understanding game players' goals helps us know what interfaces and design elements to use. There are different fonts and text colors used for several types of games. The example that was used was from this source was, in an action game, a user has more adrenaline and using red text complements this feeling whereas in an educational game, a user’s purpose is to concentrate and using more muted colors would be better.
I also learned about how gestalt laws define how a human group shapes differently while observing them. Understanding this law is essential for user Interface design. consistency, proximity, similarity, connections, and closure are all included in this law. Iterative testing is a new concept I learned that involves a principle in human computer interaction. It helps discover bugs in games and fixes them. This is important to know when focusing on games design for users, because the less the player encounters bugs in games the more they will enjoy it. A question I have is, how does HCI communicate with the coding aspect of game design process?
